Holds 10 x 10 mm cuvettes
Light tight design prevents problems with ambient light
Integral filter and lens holders
The 78100 Sample Compartment holds 10 x 10 x 45 mm cuvettes in an optical beam, for analysis. It has 1.5 inch series flanges, for direct coupling to Oriel Monochromators and Spectrographs (we also offer a Filter and Cuvette Holders for Minispectrometers. The interior baffle design of the 78100 Sample Compartment prevents light from reaching the output without going through the cell, and the grooved lid prevents ambient light from entering the compartment. The lid comes off easily for quick insertion and removal of the sample.
One of the convenient features of the 78100 is its internal filter holder. This lets you use excitation or emission filters without the need for an additional holder. The filter holder, mounted to the inside of one of the ports, holds 2 inch (51 mm) circular filters, up to 0.12 inches (3 mm) thick. For most applications you’ll want to focus the incident light onto your sample, and often that light is collimated. You may then want to recollimate the output beam, or image a fluorescing region of the cell onto the input slit of your spectrograph. The 78100 has two lens holders for 1.5 inch (38 mm) diameter lenses. The clear aperture is 1.2 inches (30 mm). The distance from the lens to the sample is 2 inches (51 mm). If longer focal length lenses are desired, use spacer tubes.
For fluorescence or light scattering applications, such as Raman, you can increase the collected radiation by placing a spherical reflector in the two ports opposite the input and signal ports. This will reflect the light that would normally be lost, back into the cell. The optional 78103 Spherical Reflector Assembly uses a broadband, high reflectivity AlMgF2 coated mirror.
The 78100 has four ports with 1.5 Inch Series female flanges. Two Double Male Coupling Rings are included so you can convert two of the ports to male flanges. This combination lets you couple the 78100 to most Oriel Instruments, for a light tight system. Or, you can rod mount the unit; a 1/4-20 tapped hole in the base accepts optical rods. The 78100 includes two port covers.
Oriel offers a selection of cuvettes, and TracQ Basic software may be used to measure transmittance through solutions.
