Simple, inexpensive IR source
Near infrared to mid infrared emission, 1.7 to 25 µm
Large, 1.36-inch diameter collimated beam
The 80007 is a silicon carbide infrared source. The emission is a smooth continuum from 1.7 to 25 µm. Output is a 1.36-inch (34.5 mm) diameter collimated beam (1° divergence, full angle). The 80007 does not include an output window; it has a clear aperture, with a 1.5-Inch Series female flange. The system includes a SiC element (Infrared Elements for Light Sources in a housing with collimating mirror, and a stand-alone power supply.
The 80007 includes the SiC element in a housing with collimating mirror, and a stand-alone power supply. We used a parabolic reflector, rather than a condensing lens, as infrared refractive optics are very expensive and have transmittance limitations. A 3.3 ft. (1 m) long cable connects to the power supply. The power supply operates the element at ~2.4 A, 12 V.
The element is a 3.8 x 12.7 mm, 24 W SiC glower; actual radiating area is approximately 3.8 x 5 mm.
