The SR-Series Magnetic Optical Support Rods provides the most stable and rigid means for mounting components to an optical table. Constructed from solid stainless steel, the SR Optical Support Rods are designed for maximum stability by integrating multiple features into a single part. Rather than having several separate adaptors, these support rods have a machined-in pedestal base for use with SR-F clamping forks and multiple machined-in mounting holes. For additional ease of use and functionality, each of the SR-Z rods incorporates graduated height marks and an integrated high-strength magnet in the pedestal base. An all-stainless steel clamping fork is used to clamp these rods on to an optical table.

To make the system complete, a host of accessories is offered including SR-E threaded extension rods, SR-S spacers, the SR-Q mounting cube and thread adaptor, the SR-SC sliding clamp and the SR-ADP mounting adaptor which allows rod-mounting of components, like mirror mounts, at non-standard heights. If pedestal mounting is needed but without the magnetic base, the SR-B pedestal base is provided which can be combined with the SR-E extension posts, SR-S spacers and the SR-ADP for multiple height configurations. 

The SR-Z rods not only have a center ¼-20 (M6) threaded mounting hole but also have two additional 8-32 (M4) mounting holes which are in line with the center hole and offset by a ½-in. (12.7 mm). These two additional mounting holes are used for directly attaching mirror mounts to the rod without a separate adaptor. Note that mounting the SN100 or SS100 Suprema mirror mounts requires either the SR-ADP mounting adaptor or a PS-0.063 spacer and a 1/4-20 to 8-32, TR-8Q20-10 (M6 to M4, TR-M4M6-10) thread reducer.

For use with the SR-SC sliding clamp, the SR-4P is a special purpose extension rod. It features a “V” groove running axially down the length of the rod and includes Newport’s patented peg fastener. The “V” groove allows the SR-SC sliding clamp with its spring-loaded ball detent to ride linearly along the SR-4P’s length, preventing unintentional rotation during height adjustment. The peg fastener allows two SR-4P to be combined and then aligned for extended travel, owing to the fact that the alignment cannot be accomplished with a standard threaded set screw.

The Aegis Qube™ Beam Routing System can also be used with the SR series rods via the Q-XE-RA-1. This rod adaptor is made to attach to the top of the Q-OC-1 cubic enclosure and will provide super stable direct mounting of a compatible mirror mount to the rod within the cube.
