LP Series Lens Positioners provide two, three, or five degrees of precision positioning for optical components. Precise, 100 TPI adjustment screws with knobs including an integral hex hole allow smooth adjustment with increased sensitivity. Our zero-freeplay XY mechanism ensures accurate positioning and enhanced long-term stability, without relying on grease to take up the clearance between sliding elements, thereby reducing drift over both time and temperature. Independent locks for each axis of translation and rotation securely lock the mechanism, not just the actuator screws, maintaining stable optical alignment. Engaging or disengaging each lock has negligible influence on the other axes.
Two-axis XY models have orthogonal transverse adjustments. Three-axis XYZ models add translation along the optical Z-axis. The Z motion is accomplished without rotation of the lens by a knurled ring with a precision 80 TPI thread. Five-axis XYZ θXθY models provide smooth XYZ translation plus true gimbaling about two orthogonal, coplanar axes. Five independent degrees of freedom allow you to accurately position an optic in any plane along any axis.
The threaded central aperture accommodates optic retaining rings and a variety of optics holders for simple lenses, objective lenses, or other optics. Each unit is supplied with two non-marring Delrin retaining rings as well as an optic holder. LPLH Series Optics Holders allow quick interchange of optical components. They are available in standard sizes for 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, or 1.5 in. (6.35, 12.7, 19.1, 25.4, or 38.1 mm) diameter optics. The optic seats against a flat surface and is held by a Delrin retaining ring — this assembly simply threads into the LP Series positioners. A solid aluminum insert is also available for you to custom machine to hold virtually any optical component. LPMH Series Optics Holders are useful for precision positioning of microscope and laser diode objectives.
All LP Series Lens Positioners can be bolted down to a table using the slotted base plate included — which will attach to either side of the mount. Two and three-axis positioners can also be bolted down without the slotted base plate by removing the mechanism from the base, bolting the base directly to a surface, and then reattaching the mechanism to the base (or they can be bolted to a vertical surface via two clearance holes in the base). Both English and metric threaded holes in the bottom of all mounts allow for post mounting, providing easy adjustment of their optical axis height and azimuthal orientation. All units have a common optical axis height on all similar size models.
