The 6035 Spectral Calibration Lamp produces narrow, intense lines from the excitation of Argon gas and Mercury vapor. The 6035 Hg(Ar) Lamp is insensitive to temperature. It requires a two-minute warm-up for the mercury vapor to dominate the discharge, then 30 minutes for complete stabilization. The average intensity is remarkably constant and reproducible after the thermal conditions stabilize. This lamp operates at 18 to 23 mA and is rated for 5000 hours of life. It is used for wavelength calibration of spectroscopic instruments such as monochromators, spectrographs, and spectral radiometers. We call this a pencil lamp because of its size and shape. It is made of double bore quartz tubing with two electrodes at one end sealed into a phenolic handle. A 1 foot (305 mm) long cord with male connector is attached to the end of the handle for connection to the power supply. An AC power supply is required to run this lamp.

Due to its intense UV spectral output profile below 400 nm, Oriel recommends wearing the necessary safety equipment such as UV protective eyewear. Safety goggles or spectacles are offered separately.
