The F-SM300-SC-C-3FC Fiber Patch cord uses F-SM-300-SC-C fiber for near UV operation. This patch cord is 3 meters long with FC/UPC connectors at both ends.


Unlike conventional fibers, F-SM-300-SC has been designed with an un-doped, pure-silica core, surrounded by a depressed, fluorine-doped cladding. Without germanium (GeO2), electronic defects and consequent color centers associated with the Ge–O bond, the prime cause of photo darkening at short wavelengths, are avoided with the result that power handling capacity is increased from a few milliwatts to several watts. In fact, in SM300, the transmission-limiting mechanism is effectively shifted from photo darkening to other nonlinearities (e.g. stimulated scattering) or even thermal damage – and in both cases, these limits too are increased over those of a conventional germano-silicate fiber.
